The delicate work of Harriet Elkerton is quite difficult to describe, her porcelain vessels are beautiful and without embellishment, this is what makes them visually interesting.
You look at the forms, and ideas start zipping around in your head, considering what the vessels could be used for.
She is a crafts person who manages to make the lost and rubbished objects of our bins, and long forgotten storage boxes, beautiful and useful again. Her titled work “useful” and “contained” show an interesting contrast between stark porcelain and uncouth aged materials, such as wood.
Her work seems like a study of her own love of ceramic and a look into what we throw away.
It is wonderfully subtle and forces you as the viewer to think about beauty in a different way.
If you pop over to her website you can find "functional" work which is a range of lovely porcelain homewares.
